Gite Registration

A quick word of advice that those of you who have gites, or are intending to open a gite this year, must now register it at your local Mairie despite the fact that you may already be registered with the Chambre of Commerce or other administrative bodies.

You may not have received any letter from your local Mairie and some Mairies don’t seem to have been informed of this new requirement but it is a chance to be proactive.

There is a form to be filled in for every property you own which is available online, or from your local Mairie (if they have received them).

These forms must be returned before the 30th June 2010. See “Selon l’article L. 324-1-1 et D. 324-1-1 du code du tourisme

It is not clear why this new legislation has been put in place but there is speculation that it might be a preamble to a new law requiring classification of all holiday lets as well as the eventual introduction of health and safety regulations.

  1. Thanks for this piece of information, I read this just days before the deadline in June and trotted off to the Mairie in Caulnes only to find that they new nothing of it. I downloaded the form and filled it in and they accepted it giving me a receipt so all should be well.

    Thanks again.
